TVU Networks Announces Release of TVUTransport –
Turnkey Appliances to provide Highest Quality Live Video Transport
over Low Bandwidth IP Networks
Las Vegas, NV – NAB Show – April 20, 2009 – TVU Networks, the leading global service for live Internet TV, today announced the release of TVUTransport, a turnkey solution for real-time content transport to work in concert with broadcasters’ existing satellite backhaul systems.
Built on feedback and input from the extensive list of professional broadcasters who have successfully distributed their live television content on TVU, the introduction of TVUTransport marks a new capability for broadcasters to reliably deliver live video of up to HD quality over low bandwidth public IP networks, long distance.
The TVUTransport product is comprised of a coupling of the TD2000 Transmit and TD2000 Receive appliances.
To date, IP-based options for newsgathering and video transport have been problematic – with a choice of either (1) using the public Internet – which is unreliable, or (2), dedicating a high speed IP line – which is cost-prohibitive.
TVU Networks has designed the TVUTransport TD2000 Transmit and Receive appliances to specifically address these broadcaster pain points. Whether for a field unit in a mobile SNG van needing to provide breaking news coverage back to Master Control – or for a broadcaster needing live content transport to O&Os and affiliates – TVUTransport allows broadcasters to leverage up to six low bandwidth Internet connections, such as 3G, WiFi, and ADSL at the same time, to both transmit and receive. All connections get fully utilized to deliver and sustain the quality of the video transmission, ensuring the highest QoS in even the poorest of network environments.
“With the launch of TVUTransport, for the first time, broadcasters now have a way of combining multiple low cost data connections to transmit a high quality live television feed. Unlike typical solutions today that deliver sub-D1 quality video over a dedicated T1 line, TVUTransport allows you to go HD, using multiple public Internet connections,” states Paul Shen, CEO of TVU Networks.
The TD2000 appliances are powered by TVU’s proven Real-time Packet Replication (RPR) technology for live video delivery, in use by major broadcasters around the world.
RPR, based on the understanding of dynamic network topology information and real-time traffic knowledge accumulated from TVU’s 30+ million viewer installations, enables the intelligent distribution of packets in real-time, creating the most efficient way to deliver the highest possible quality of video across a network.
